11/12/07 - The Co-operative Bank donates to 49 community groups
The money has been given to 49 local organisations via the Bank’s unique Customer Donation Fund, which makes regular donations to customers of its Community Directplus account. Since the scheme was launched in 2003, it has now provided over £140,000 to 170 groups that undertake important work within local communities nationwide.
Amongst the worthy projects set to benefit from this latest payout is an organisation that promotes art by children with Autism, and a volunteer ran scheme that restores old hand tools before forwarding them worldwide where they can be used to generate an income.
Community Directplus is a dedicated bank account for community organisations, charities and social groups. In addition to providing the chance of financial support via the Customer Donation Fund, it offers free banking, credit interest* and a choice of easy ways to manage the account, from online and telephone to branch and the Post Office.
Mark Byrne, Head of Retail Liabilities, at the Co-operative Bank said: “At the Co-operative Bank, community involvement is an integral part of our business and the Customer Donation Fund helps us to support other organisations that carry out exemplary work at a local level.
“The Community Directplus account not only gives community groups a competitive bank account with free banking but the chance to gain some usually much needed financial support.”
